TiVo C00210 TiVoGlo Premium Remote Control, Black Great Remote… – Alice Roberts – Memphis, TN United States
We have a toddler and needed a replacement–this is better than the original TIVO remote–but some of the buttons are in different places…
I have been a TiVo user for many years, we own 4 units, 2 HD. Frankly I’ve always wanted a Glo because of the backlight but could never justify it for that reason alone. Recently I upgraded my AVR to the Sony STR-DN1000. Unfortunately the standard TiVo peanut will not work with this receiver (just doesn’t have the codes). Fortunately the Glo is a learning remote. I programmed the Glo to:

- run the TiVo (default, no programming necessary obviously)
- power on my Panasonic Plasma display
- volume the AVR
- set the INPUT button to switch the AVR to HDMI 1 (TiVo) and set the MUTE button (which I never use anyway) to HDMI 2 (my PS3)

That covers it for me.

As for the remote itself:

It’s considerably better than the standard TiVo remote. Why?:

– MUCH better buttons. The buttons have a more tactile feel with a slight positive click. No more mushy buttons. Even the TiVo button is improved.

– WEIGHT. Nice heft.

– SELECT button is now in the center of the directional pad, quite a bit handier than below as it is on the standard remote.

– BACKLIT! It’s not terribly bright but it’s pretty good. It’s also ambient light sensitive so it only turns on at night, no wasted batteries during the day. Contrary to what another reviewer said, the backlight function can be turned off.

– TEXTURE. The bottom half of the backside is textured which makes it easy to tell which way is up in the dark.

– POWER. As it’s predecessor, very powerful IR. I don’t understand why other remote manufacturers don’t do this. Point it at the ceiling or through a blanket, it will work.

Cons? Though it is a learning remote, it has few available buttons for learning as most the buttons are TiVo specific and cannot be programmed (Thumbs buttons, Aspect, etc.). That’s OK though, it has enough for what I want it to do. The price is also much too high. This should be tops. TiVo: C00210 The ultimate remote control for your TiVo box. Coby 4 GB Flash MP3 Player with 3-Inch Color LCD, FM and Touch Screen Control (Black) Not Happy – Danielle M. Deen –
This is the first mp3 player that I have had since my ipod. The thing I liked about the ipod was that I felt it was easy to use and to create play lists that were easily accessable on the device. (I like my music to be organized and like to listen to a variety of artists depending on my mood which makes the play lists good). I tried using the software that came with the player and this was completely useless. KI would make a play list and sync it up and nothing would transfer with the play list it was all separate and off of the main menu ( you would think it would put it under music in thje main menu right….nope. I tried with windows media player and that didn’t work either. So I finally copy and pasted to it from the drive menu on the computer and that seemed to work, although I’m not happy with the way the player names the files that are transffered to it. So now that I thought I finally figured this thing it out…it keeps freezing, and now won’t turn on at all. It is nice that it has a speaker on the outside and a radio feature, and pictures look good on the display. Wanting this mostly for music I am very disappointed.

Philips PMDVR8 8-Device DVR and Audio Specialty Universal Remote Control

Wednesday, January 6th, 2010

Philips PMDVR8 8-Device DVR and Audio Specialty Universal Remote Control The device works great with our TiVo Series 2. We were even able to program our Roku set top box on one of the buttons that we weren’t using so that we could actually get down to one remote.

The only thing that doesn’t work perfectly (oddly enough) is a Philips soundbar. It will control the volume just fine but it won’t switch to iPod dock or stereo with any of the controls and the learning function doesn’t seem to like those buttons.

Otherwise, I’d highly recommend the product to anyone with a TiVo looking to get a cheap universal remote. Philips: PMDVR8 Philips Magnavox Universal Remotes let you replace a broken or lost remote or combine more than one remote into one. In addition, this remote is equipped with a command learning feature, which lets the remote learn commands from your original remote control.
